Meet Cedar, a sweet and content 1-year-old little girl who instantly melts the hearts of all who meet her.
Although Cedar appeared healthy at birth, she began showing signs that something was wrong at three weeks old. She was very lethargic and wasn’t gaining weight.
At six weeks old, Cedar began having seizures regularly – sometimes up to 60 in one day.
After genetic testing, Cedar was diagnosed with CDKL5 deficiency disorder, a seizure disorder that is followed by significant delays in many aspects of development.
For Cedar, this diagnosis includes severe epilepsy, cortical blindness, the inability to use her hands, low muscle tone and control, and respiratory complications.
Unfortunately, most seizure medications are ineffective in treating Cedar’s seizures.
Cedar’s family travels to Colorado every six months to see specialists as part of her ongoing medical care.
Cedar is adored by her four big brothers- Bear (6), Gentry (5), Wilder (3), and Carver (2),- who enjoy being her “protectors.”
Cedar will be adopted as a Sparrow to Caldera High School in Bend. Students will work hard to earn money for Cedar through sponsored community service, supporting her and cheering her on as her family continues to navigate her medical journey.
