Matteo is a 14-year-old boy in his freshman year at North Medford High School. He loves music, playing video games, and making people laugh. His family describes him as a very tender-hearted and compassionate person.
In June of 2023, Matteo was diagnosed with Acute Myeloid Leukemia (AML). AML is a type of cancer of the blood and bone marrow that contains an excess of immature white blood cells.
AML is extremely aggressive and requires Matteo to undergo chemotherapy treatments.
Matteo spent his entire 2023 summer going to doctors and receiving chemo treatments. The current goal is to get him into remission so that he can receive a bone marrow transplant.
In his battle with cancer, Matteo will be monitored closely for at least the next three years.
This medical journey has turned Matteo’s life upside down in so many ways. However, he is a fighter and has been incredibly brave every step of the way. He is determined to beat this and get back to doing all the things a kid his age does.
Matteo will be adopted as the Sparrow to North Medford High School. NMHS students will work hard to earn money for Matteo through sponsored community service.
