Read Oliver's Story

Oliver is a sweet and loving 11-year-old who enjoys soccer, playing with toys, and Legos. He also loves Mickey Mouse and Paw Patrol.
n
nOliver was born with Down Syndrome but had always been healthy. However, in December of 2020 his parents noticed he was having difficulty with his right arm. Oliver couldn’t release things he grabbed onto.
n
nDoctors couldn’t find anything wrong at first. In January of 2021, he was sent to a specialist and an MRI was ordered. That’s when they discovered a ping pong ball-sized tumor on the left side of his brain.
n
nOliver underwent brain surgery within a week. Doctors were able to remove the tumor but both chemotherapy and radiation treatments were needed to be sure the tumor did not return.
n
nDue to the surgery, Oliver has difficulty moving his arm and leg on the right side of his body and he must work hard in physical therapy to get better.
n
nDespite all of this, he has a smile on his face and does not give up.
n
nOliver will be adopted as a Sparrow to Evergreen Middle School. Students will work hard to raise money for Oliver through sponsored community service.
