Olivia, known as ‘Livvy,’ by all who love her, is a sweet 3-year-old little girl who lives with a rare genetic brain disease called Metachromatic Leukodystrophy (MLD).
MLD causes certain chemicals to build up in the cells of the nervous system, damaging the protective sheaths that surround nerve cells. These chemicals begin to destroy the brain’s white matter.
Livvy was diagnosed with MLD in March of 2020 when she was almost 2 years old. Within a few months, Livvy had lost her ability to walk and talk.
Livvy has an older sister named Eva, and a younger sister named Keira, both of whom she loves very much. Keira also has MLD, and fortunately, was diagnosed in time for her to receive life-saving treatment in Milan, Italy.
Although MLD is aggressive and gets worse over time, Livvy and her family are determined to find joy one day at a time and do not take one minute they have together for granted.
Olivia will be adopted as the very first Sparrow to Hamilton High School in Chandler, AZ. Students will work hard to earn money for Olivia through sponsored community service.
