Penelope is a sweet two-year-old little girl who lights up the world with her beautiful smile. She is loved by everyone who knows her.
n
nPenelope was born with an extremely rare condition that has yet to be given an actual term. Doctors refer to her condition as a genetic variance in the DHX16 gene.
n
nThis rare condition has caused Penelope to be blind and have very low muscle tone.
n
nPenelope is also at risk for possible kidney issues and seizures. Thus far, Penelope has not experienced these two issues, but will be monitored closely by doctors.
n
nPenelope is non-verbal and is enrolled in speech therapy. She also requires the use of ankle braces and physical therapy.
n
nPenelope is currently being seen by Shriners Hospital for Children to monitor her mobility and possibly get her the use of a ‘stander’ to allow weight bearing support.
n
nPenelope’s condition is unique to her and was not genetically passed down. This allows doctors a rare chance to discover more in terms of genetic testing.
n
nDespite many medical challenges, Penelope is a cheerful, sweet, and extremely affectionate little girl.
n
nPenelope will be adopted as a Sparrow to Mazama High School. Mazama Students will work hard to raise money for Penelope through sponsored community service.
