Saylor is a sweet, happy, adorable, and resilient 5-year-old little girl who lives with medical challenges resulting from a CASK gene mutation.
The CASK gene helps make a protein that plays an important role in brain development.
Saylor faces many physical and cognitive challenges from this condition, yet she consistently exceeds the expectations of her doctors.
Although Saylor usually uses a wheelchair, especially in public, she can walk on her own – a milestone her parents were once told she would never reach.
Saylor is non-verbal, but she has learned to communicate through her eyes in ways her family understands.
Saylor has heightened sensory sensitivities, and loud noises can overwhelm her, but headphones help manage this.
Saylor also has dysphagia, meaning she has trouble swallowing food and drinks. She may need to have a g-tube at some point in the future.
Despite her medical challenges, Saylor’s determination, radiant smile, and joyful spirit inspire everyone she meets.
Saylor will be adopted as a Sparrow to Bend Senior High School. BSH students will work hard to earn money for Saylor through sponsored community service, supporting her and cheering her on as her family continues to navigate her medical journey.
