Sofia is a beautiful six-month-old who came into this world fighting for her life. Even before she was born, her parents knew she would need special care when she arrived.

When Sofia’s mom was only five months along, an ultrasound revealed she not only had a severe heart condition, but her abdomen was full of cysts. She had to be carefully monitored until she was born.

When Sofia was born two months premature in June, she was much sicker than doctors anticipated. In addition to what they already knew, a great deal of fluid in her abdomen created pressure on her organs that had to be drained.

In November, Sofia had major heart surgery to make the necessary repairs to her heart. Doctors must monitor her closely. She will remain in the PICU at Doernbecher Children’s Hospital

Sofia has spent the first 168 days of her life in the hospital. Her family cannot wait until they can bring her home. They know that she will need a great deal of care as doctors monitor her progress.

Sofia will be adopted as a Sparrow to Hillsboro High School. Students will work hard to raise money for Sofia through sponsored community service
